Summary of Position:

  • The Industrial Control System Technician’s (ICST) role is a “boots on the ground” approach with  primary responsibility of the installation and maintenance of all operational aspects of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) throughout the mine site plant and pit areas including all fixed and mobile equipment where applicable.  The ICST will be a part of a multi-site team collaborating with the Asset Management’s ICS Engineer, who will provide direction to the mine site ICST, who in turn will work closely with the mine site Electrical group.  The mine site ICST will report to the Electrical Supervisor.       

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with IS&T and Asset Management’s ICS Engineer
  • Oversee all site ICS networks, PLC’s, HMI’s, drives, laptop/desktop computers and all smart control devices hardware
  • Oversee all site ICS laptop/desktop computer control software (licenses, updates, installs)
  • Maintain Rockwell site support
  • Ensure site compliance management (security, work practices, etc.)
  • Oversee all ICS drive hardware
  • Oversee all PLC’s, drive’s and “smart devices” firmware
  • Create and maintain ICS network diagrams
  • Create and maintain a register of all “smart devices”
  • Actively engage in all PLC program development/updates
  • Ensure that all PLC master programs/files reside in Asset Centre and are maintained
  • Train end users
  • Team member of the Electrical Technology Steering Committee
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
  • Actively engage with Internal and External auditors as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field or industrial maintenance or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge to successfully perform the job.
  • Experience with the setup and maintenance of computer integral systems
  • Industrial control network design and maintenance preferred
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Candidate must have a high school diploma/GED.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to continuously sit with frequent forward bending and rotation. The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds; rarely to horizontally lift up to 34 pounds; and rarely lift, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds or swing up to 12 pounds. The employee is required to rarely push or pull up to 100 pounds of force. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally use a right hand grip up to 30 pounds of force; and rarely use hand at an elevated level. The employee is required continuously stand with forward bending and frequently rotating; kneel; and frequently to walk; climb stairs; crouch; squat repetitively; and occasionally crawl. Rarely the employee is required to squat repetitively or reach up to 74”. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment:

  • Works in office environment and site environment. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; working in plant environment; working in shop environment; and working in the cab of equipment or vehicle.
