Our Underground Mining Method is Room and Pillars


We use Contractors:

Fronts to advance along the direction of the mineral as well as cross cuts 11 m. of distance between them. Cross Cuts usually take place until hanging wall to the footing wall. (The progress of the Drive we call Phase I, and progress in the Cross Cuts we know as Phase II).

Once defined the hanging wall and the footing wall. Proceeds to enhance the cross cut to have a length of approximately 15 m. in the same direction of dip of the mineral. For this process works we retreat from hanging wall to footing wall. After every blasting we use to put roof bolts with cement to support. The gallery between the Cross Cuts we put cable bolting 4 m. long All this process is known as Phase III.

To load the ore or waste from these developments is done with company´s equipment with its own operator. The intention is reduce the cost per meter of advance.

Except in the bottom where the Contractor also uses their equipment to load at a distance of 250 m. only.

We have another Contractor to do the maintenance of the railway in the 1380 Level where the locomotives move ore or sometimes waste. (Length about 4 kms)

Mopani

We have people from the Company to:

All equipments to load are from Mopani. We have Caterpillar 1300 and Sandvik Toro with the same capacity. And two dump trucks from Sandvik with 16 Tons. Of capacity.

Similarly the transport of ore locomotives are made with company equipment and their operators.

The infrastructure of air, water, electricity, ventilation is provided by Mopani.

As for the entry and exit of personnel inside the mine is done by a Shaft of 420 mts. Deep.

Finally, to get a low-profile from surface to inside the mine or viceversa has a ramp that starts from the open pit and allows entry to the level where the workshop to 366 m. depth in a short time.

During my tenure I suggested that operators be trained in the handling and care of the scoops and trucks, low profile by the continuous deterioration that had such equipment due to lack of expertise in management. In the case of the trucks were frequent power cuts for not giving a good radius of curvature during operation, causing the power cut to the detriment to the Jumbos, Pumps, Fans.

We use Contractors:

To drill the holes in the rings and the rigs with Long Holes Machines like Simba in the Ore Bodie. The total quantity of meters that we drill with the Long Hole Drill Machines is 19,000 meters/month to get 160,750 Tons.of ore.

To prepare the Cross Cuts from the footing wall to the hanging wall and to prepare the Drives in the same direction that the Ore Bodie has. The machines that the Contractors use are: Jumbos and Loaders.

To prepare the Slot Raises in the intersections with the Cross Cuts and the Drives, the Contractors use jackhammers

Mopani

We have people from the Company to:

Primary blastings in day shift only. In some cases with 14 holes we can produce around 1400 Tons per blasting/shift.

To move the ore and waste we use Cat 1300 and Cat 1600 Loaders. And when the distance is more than 300 m. we use Dumptrucks Cat AD 30 and AD 45 to put on the ore tips or waste tips.

Finally the ore arrives to the Shaft with 4 Locomotives with 5 mining cars of 7.2 Tons of capacity every one.
The distance to move is 2.5 Kms.

We move the ore or waste at surface the capacity of every skip is 12.5 tons. And we use 2 skips in a vertical distance of 1260 meters. At the moment we can hoist 357 Tons/hour.

Diesel Locomotive move the ore at the Concentrator 500 Tons/trip with 10 cars.

The capital development is 168 meters/month and the secondary development is 594 meters/month.

Our cost was US $35/Ton of ore. Our performance is 6.34 Tons/man-shift.

I got several objectives:
I made mine mineral campaigns. At first it was the treatment of ore: Don Mario, Black Heralds, Santa Elena and San Valentín separately. Then to use the installed capacity of the concentrator plant was set up a 20-day treatment of ore x 10 days stayed. Don Mario mining unit

Black Heralds Unit
Develop a plan to reduce costs by optimizing the use of water resources and stop eating for 02 diesel electric power generation. The project involves the laying of high voltage line from 33 KV to Mina Saint Valentine to Black Heralds Mine. The projects that are feasible is available Llapay Hydroelectric Plant with a capacity of current generation of 3.2 MW and with an expansion project to 4.2 MW. Used only 1.5 MW. The benefits are: Power supply to the TMD 350 Concentrator Plant, power for the network of the mine. Therefore reduce the costs of purchasing diesel fuel 02 that is used in generators.

This project to conect the power from Llapay´s Hydroelectric was finished at December 22th, 2010.
