GOLD AND SILVER mine
Geology
La Zanja is located within a large area of hydrothermal alteration, mainly related to epithermal gold deposits in high sulfidation environments, in addition to some vein systems of intermediate to low sulfidation. Two ore deposits have been recognized : San Pedro Sur and Cerro Pampa Verde, containing also silver, very favorable for mining due their proximity to the surface and the volume of disseminated mineral. It is an open pit mining operation.
Operations
Mining operations are conducted through the open-pit method and carbon-in-column circuits are utilized to recover gold from heap leach operations.
Mineral extracted is treated by leaching and the enrichment solution by Adsoption /Desorption / Regeneration with activated charcoal for obtaining silver and gold dore bars by a final process of smelting
The gold-laden carbon is then transported to Yanacocha to continue processing into doré bars.
