The reserve classifications used on InfoMine db are based on the terms outlined by the CIM (Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum). For additional information on InfoMine db (including examples of a property report, company report and the advanced search) please see About InfoMine db. In April 1999 the terms used for reserve classification on InfoMine db were changed. The following table outlines which new terms were added and what old terms were re-named (please note: old reserves were not reclassified they were just automatically switched to the new term). The note field for reserves typically specifies the exact term used in the source document to define the reserve. The table also lists comparable terms used in Australia and the United States. In addition a list of other terms occasionally used to describe reserves is listed. RESERVE CLASSIFICATION TABLE
(*) The 'Possible Reserve' category is no longer used by the CIM. When the CIM updated its standards on mineral resources and reserves in August 2000 the 'Possible Reserve' category was eliminated. The 'Possible Reserve' category was used in the CIM 1996 publication "Mineral Resource Reserve Classification: Categories, Definitions, and Guidelines". Please note: If a reserve is for more than one classification the reserve is placed in the lowest reserve classification applicable. (e.g. A Proven and Probable Reserve would be classified as a Probable Reserve).
