Risk and Resilience Mining Solutions 2016

The following courses will be offered on November 13, 2016 prior to Risk and Resilience Mining Solutions 2016 conference.

Risk Assessment, Decision Making and Management of Mine Waste Facilities

Presented by: Franco Oboni, and Cesar Oboni, Riskope, Canada; Jack A. Caldwell, Robertson GeoConsultants, Canada

This course is intended for all those professionals who have to design, permit, construct, operate, finance, insure, steward and, ultimately, close a mine tailings facility, waste rock dump, or spent heap leach pad. The course deals with the use of risk assessment and decision making methods during all phases of the management of a mine waste facility.

Metallurgical Testwork for Mining Projects

Presented by: SGS Canada Inc, Canada

The course is aimed to professionals involved in the mining sector including Geologists, mineralogists, miners, financers, operators, academia, etc. who would like to learn about the details and intricacies relevant to the independent-commercial testwork practices. There are no minimum pre-requisites for these professionals, as the course will be designed primarily for non-metallurgists.

Heap Leach Mining Solutions 2016

The following courses will be offered on October 17, 2016 prior to Heap Leach Mining Solutions 2016 conference.

Recent Advances in Heap Leach Pad Design

Presented by: Sam Allen, TRI / Environmental Inc., USA; Michael Milczarek, GeoSystems Analysis, Inc./Global Water Experts, USA; Denys Parra, Anddes Asociados SAC and National University of Engineering, Peru; Dirk van Zyl, Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering, University of British Columbia, Canada.

This course will discuss the followings topics:

  • Aspects of geomembrane, pipes, drains, geomembrane installation quality control, leak location surveying.
  • Geotechnical behavior of heap leach pad related to geosynthetics such as: soil-geomembrane interface characterization, non-linear shear strength, interface performance with high loads and also topics related to stability analysis, seismic induced permanent deformation, case study and state of the art in 3D stability.
  • Hydrodynamics topics will be presented and discussed such as: saturated vs unsaturated flow, how affect the ore permeability on metal recovery, laboratory methods to determine ore permeability, field methods to assess ore permeability and metal recovery and hydrodynamic modeling.
  • Heap leach risk assessment.
The course is designed for technical personnel involved in heap leach pad analysis, design, construction and operation, taking advantage of the strong experience of the instructors in the specific topics to be covered, which have been successfully applied in several heap leaching projects around the world.
