RFP - 3D Sub-Slave Craton Map In Support Of Diamond Exploration in Canada’s North
Diamond exploration in Canada currently uses four primary tools widely recognized by industry to assess properties of subcontinental mantle lithosphere at 50 to 400 km depths, the diamond reservoir, in order to target exploration activity. This exploration activity does not include kimberlites, the minable diamond deposit. Two of these tools are geochemical: analysis of mantle xenolith rock samples and of indicator mineral grains erupted to the near-surface and subsequently eroded by glaciers. Two tools are geophysical: mapping of more conductive regions using natural (magnetotelluric) currents in the mantle and mapping of structures that affect propagation of earthquake (teleseismic) waves. In southern Africa, both geophysical properties correlate with indicator mineral trends and with greater diamond prospectivity (Shirey et al., 2003, Lithos, 71, 243-258). The GEM Diamond Project seeks to enhance the applicability of all four tools to Canada’s North. This will make diamond exploration there more efficient and attract more international exploration effort.
By means of this RFP, NRCan is seeking proposals from bidders to integrate results obtained using all four of these tools into a common geographic reference frame in order to visualize, compare, and synthesize the various results. This will allow us to then present the combined data and interpretations as 2D and 3D maps in a more effective manor to the diamond exploration industry. This contract work is part of the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) that ends in March 2013. The GEM-Diamonds project is aiming, through this contract, to generate a three dimensional model, essentially a 3D map of the subsurface to upper mantle depths beneath Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
The period of the contract shall be from contract award to April 30, 2012.
Closing Date: February 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST)

AFGHANISTAN Oil/GAS SECTOR - SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDY
Request for Expression of Interest (REoI)
Suitably qualified environmental/social consultancies are invited to submit an Expression of Interest in conducting an Environmental and Social Baseline Study to world-class standard of a set of three continuous areas in north Afghanistan close to the international border with Tajikistan:
Kashgari block (oil), Bazarkhami block (oil), and Zamuradsay block (oil). All three blocks have known hydrocarbon-bearing accumulations, and are covered by Oil and Gas Production Sharing Contracts for exploration, development and production. The Kashkari Block is located in the southern portion of the Amu Darya basin in which to date has proven to be an oil province with some associated gas. The Block includes three known oil fields, one of which is currently in limited production (Angot field) and two which have been delineated in varying degrees but never produced (Kashkari field and Aq Darya field). The Bazarkhami and Zamuradsay Blocks contain known oil fields of the same name that have been delineated but have never produced.
Expressions of Interest are welcome from companies that have the following attributes:
At least 5 years experience in the onshore oil/gas industry;
At least 3 ESIA conducted for onshore oil/gas exploration and development projects;
Experience in desert and semi-desert regions of the Middle East and/or Asia;
Experience in areas of pollution from abandoned and suspended wells or pipelines;
In addition, in-house capacity in:
remote sensing interpretation in arid regions
environmental auditing of oil/gas facilities
community outreach and socio-economic studies in oil/gas production regions
Current presence in Afghanistan, the Middle East or Central Asia or China will be an advantage.
It is anticipated that upon successful completion of the Environmental and Social Baseline Study that the Consultancy will be considered to undertake a full Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for an intensive oil exploration programme across all three blocks, plus reinstatement of old wells; and in due course an ESIA for production fields.
An Expression of Interest should be no more than 4 pages, plus company brochure and link to company website.
On the basis of Expressions of Interests, no more than 5 (companies) will be invited to tender.
Tenders will be issued no later than 14th December, and the closing date for bids will be in early January 2012.
An Expression of Interest must be submitted electronically in PDF format to the email address above by midnight Kabul local time, 14th December 2011, and with an accompanying Email header
entitled: AFGHANISTAN - Expression of Interest for Social/Environmental Baseline Study.
Late submissions will not be considered. Communication only by email.
