This Spanish dictionary/glossary contains 22,000 useful words and phrases that have been carefully selected for the extractive industries, mining and petroleum.
The dictionary also includes a practical selection of business, accounting, environmental and computer science terminology that is needed by technical people employed in exploration, development and operations.
In addition to providing a choice of translations for most terms, full Spanish language definitions are given for those that are considered to be essential, controversial or otherwise useful.
This volume was first conceived as a ‘custom dictionary’ with the idea that it would enable a decent computerized translation of a technical handbook. It soon became obvious that a single translation was not a practical goal. Several would be required, one each for Chile, Péru and México, just to start with. This is because there is a marked difference in the technical words and phrases employed from one Latin American country to the next as well as in Spain, itself.
Slowly, it became apparent that there is a crying need for a technical dictionary that does the following:
- Lists complete idiomatic expressions besides individual words
- Distinguishes the technical terms by country usage

Miners Handbook, conceived and compiled this dictionary.
