National and international legislation has provided the framework in which transformation must be achieved in the mining sector. However, whilst efforts are underway to comply with this legislation it is increasingly apparent that transformation delivery is not effecting the requisite change. The gap between intentions and the reality on the ground drives a negative press at all levels of the mining industry. Whilst there are a plethora of reasons behind the limited achievements of the mining sector as a whole towards transformation objectives, fundamental to the delay is the inability of the sector to effect change within management thinking and business practices. If the transformation agenda remains driven by legislative requirements the necessary change on the ground will not be effected as the requisite change management perspective at operational, group or industry level will not take place. A key mechanism for effecting transformation is your operation’s successful delivery of their Social and Labour Plan (SLP). The focus of this session will be to provide experienced insights into how to manage the planning, implementation and reporting on all aspects of your SLP to go beyond compliance driven targets and meet tangible, sustainable delivery across the sector.
