April 24, 2013 - April 25, 2013 in Live Webcast Format,
This live webcast will present the principles and applications of stereographic projection techniques commonly used in rock engineering to analyse geotechnical data and to determine the likelihood of rock mass failure induced by geological structures. The principles of projecting the orientation of 3D geological structures onto a 2D grid or stereonet and distribution of structural populations will be demonstrated with interactive figures, examples and exercises. The methodology of plotting, processing, and interpretation of geotechnical data for the purpose of stability analysis of rock slopes and underground excavations will be introduced in the context of various rock mass failure modes.
