Companhia de Ferro Ligas da Bahia - Ferbasa is a Brazil-based company involved in the production and commercialization of ferrochrome and alloy. The Company is active in mineral extraction, research, processing, metallurgy, reforestation and charcoal production. It operates three iron ore mines located in the state of Bahia. Its products include high-carbon and low-carbon ferrochrome and ferrochrome silicon, among others, used in the production of steel and derivatives.
As of December 31, 2009, the Company had five subsidiaries including two wholly owned ones: Mineracao Vale do Jacurici SA and Industria de Minerios Damacal Ltda.
Founded in February 23, 1961 by engineer José Corgosinho de Carvalho Filho, FERBASA began operating in the town of Campo Formoso (state of Bahia) as a mining company with the purpose of producing chrome ore to supply the domestic industry.
Its products are: High-Carbon Ferrochrome (HCFeCr); Low-Carbon Ferrochrome (LCFeCr); Ferrochrome Silicon (FeSi Cr); Ferrosilicon 75 (FeSi 75); Micro Silica or Active Silica; Chromite Sand; Lump and Quicklime.
