Company SummaryPalabora Mining Company Limited extracts and beneficiates copper and vermiculite from its mines in the Limpopo Province. The company was incorporated in South Africa in August 1956. It is South Africa’s only producer of refined copper. Company NewsFriday, April 24, 2009 Palabora Mining reported that in 2008 the underground division demonstrated sustained delivery of 32 232 tonnes per day of production. A total of 11,76 million tonnes of ore were hoisted to the surface – this is a slight increase when compared with the 2007 tonnages. A new daily average production record was set at 35 933 tonnes during the month of August. The copper grade remained constant at 0,7 per cent Cu. Also in 2008, 7,2 million tonnes of surface stockpile material were reclaimed and delivered to the concentrator crushing facilities for reprocessing. Rod production from Palabora copper for 2008 was
51 374 tonnes. A more fuel-efficient casting furnace was commissioned in the first quarter.
