Sherritt International announced second-quarter 2009 results with Net earnings of $24.4 million in second-quarter 2009 ($0.08 per share), compared with net earnings of $80.3 million ($0.28 per share) for second-quarter 2008, despite a significant decline in commodity prices. A net loss for the first six months of 2009 totaled $18.5 million ($0.07 per share) compared to net earnings of $169.3 million ($0.65 per share) for the first six months of 2008. First-quarter 2009 results included a $79.5 million ($57.4 million after-tax) loss on disposal in respect of the sale of certain Oil and Gas assets.
