Golden Star Resources provided an update on the continuing exploration of its Benso concession in Ghana. Hole SWZDD026 intersected three parallel zones beginning at a drilled depth of 161 meters including a 5 meter drilled width intercept of 26 g/t gold. Drill hole SWZDD030, targeted the new zone 100 meters along strike and intersected the high grade zone at a depth of 336 meters yielding 11.4 meters at 6.6 g/t gold including 4.4 meters grading 12.2 g/t gold. We continue to test this high grade target zone down dip and along strike.
Golden Star Resources reported that Mill 2 at Wassa in Ghana, which has two identical ball mills operating independently in parallel, recently experienced a mechanical breakdown involving the pinion gear assembly. It is estimated it will take seven to nine weeks to return the mill to full operation. In the meantime, Mill 1 at Wassa has not been affected and continues to process treating the ore supply from the Benso and Wassa pits. The company also reported that delivery of high-grade ore from the Benso property at HBB to the Wassa processing plant commenced in August, 2008, three weeks earlier than planned
