Patriot Coal Group announced that its eleven Appalachian coal mining complexes and three Illinois Basin coal mining complexes produced a total of 32,836 tons of coal in 2009. In 2009, approximately 83% of the coal sales were under long-term (one year or greater) contracts. Also in 2009, coal was sold to over 98 electricity generating and industrial plants in 8 countries, including the U.S., which is where the company has their primary customer base. The 2010 commitments represent more than 85% of Patrot Coal's currently estimated production for 2010.
