At a well attended session on diamonds at the Cordilleran Exploration Roundup held in Vancouver last week a talk by Roger D. Morton that touched on the diamond exploration potential of komatiitic suites peaked explorationists curiosity. Roger Morton suggested that these non-kimberlitic non-lamproitic mantle derivatives could host potentially economic diamond deposits and that they would not likely be found using conventional heavy mineral kimberlite indicator mineral sampling techniques. It is only now becoming known that komatiitic volcanic suits can be considered possible diamond host rocks in addition to kimberlite and lamproite.

Anzex Resources has lodged priority application over 940 square kilometres of the Bingara diamond field in New South Wales, Australia. The property covers ground that has produced alluvial diamonds and is believed to have potential to cover magnetic anomalies interpreted as diatremes on an adjacent property. The magnetic anomalies are thought to be non kimberlitic diamond sources for the alluvial diamonds found in the region.
