Southern Uranium and joint venture partner Crescent Gold have made a significant discovery of outcropping vanadium and iron
mineralisation, referred to as the Vanadis Prospect, in eastern Northern Territory, Australia. Rock outcrop sampling of haematite veined hydrothermal breccia averages 0.74% V2O5 (vanadium pentoxide) and 27.7% Fe over a 250 m by 250 m area at the Vanadis prospect.
Southern Uranium announced the collaborative drilling in participation with the Northern Territory government has been completed at Calvert Hills. The drilling has confirmed the prospective geology of the Westmoreland Uranium Field extends across the Calvert Hills project area under generally thin younger cover that has hindered past explorers. The new core is being evaluated with NT Geological Survey geologists to fine tune future targeting and exploration of the project area. The drill program was completed in mid September with four holes CH RCD001-004 totalling 1,218 metres.
Interpretation of the multiple geophysical datasets continues with a specialist uranium geologist added to the team to assist targeting for Westmoreland style deposits. The data shows the key ingredients of numerous dolerite filled northeast structures intersecting thick Westmoreland Conglomerate previously obscured to previous explorers by thin cover sediments. The objective is finalise target selection and
undertake first-pass drill testing in the dry season around May next year.
