July 31, 1992 Open pit mining was completed; milling from stockpiles continued through May, 1993. The final bar of gold was poured on June23, 1993. Gold within two 150m x 200m interconnected, rhyolitic intrusive breccia pipes that intrude Precambrian basement rocks. The gold is microscopic and is associated with sulfides, chiefly pyrite. Mining was at a rate 24 kt/day. South Pipe (contained higher grade ore) was the primary production area.The North Pipe was worked as a relief area and became the primary source of ore in 2nd quarter of 1991. The lower grade ore was stockpiled for heap leaching. Ore was milled at a rate of 3,400 t/d. An Omnic cone crusher was installed in 1990 to compensate for unexpected hardness of ore. |
