Discovery Metals Limited announce the agreement of a joint venture exploration programme with the Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) for the Dikoloti Nickel Project in north-east Botswana. The Dikoloti nickel project comprises four prospecting licences covering an area of 600km2 surrounding the three nickel deposits of BCL Limited in the Selebi-Phikwe region of north-east Botswana. Discovery Metals has earned an 85% interest from Xstrata. An Inferred Mineral Resource of 4.1Mt @ 0.7% Ni, 0.5% Cu and 1.2 g/t PGE’s at a cut-off of 0.5% Ni for 28,700 tonnes of contained nickel has been reported in accordance with the guidelines of the JORC (2004) code. On completion of the contemplated exploration programme for the Dikoloti tenements, the remaining Xstrata interest will convert to a royalty on future production.

Discovery Metals has completed a comprehensive new study into the most cost effective way to process ore from its Dikoloti nickel deposit in north-east Botswana, using a state-of-the-art heap leach bio-oxidation process. The study was based on GeoBiotics LLC’s proprietary GEOLEACH process, which has been developed as a method to recover base metals from sulphide ores as an alternative to stirred tank leaching and other competing technologies. Highlights from new metallurgical test work include: greater than 74% nickel extraction from the ore was achieved after 160 days; 99% of the extracted nickel can be recovered from the bio-oxidation solution as a nickel sulphide, by use of sodium sulphide precipitation; and the heap leach approach using GEOLEACH should have capital and operating costs which are significantly lower than conventional flotation processing. The scoping study financial model for Dikoloti is currently being revised, based upon a bio-oxidation heap leap operation.

Reported the Dikoloti nickel mineralisation is amenable to heap leach bio-oxidation processing using the GEOLEACH process. And greater than 74% nickel extraction from the ore was achieved after 160 days with 99% of the extracted nickel can be recovered from the bio-oxidation solution as a nickel sulphide, by use of sodium sulphide precipitation.
