Golden Star Resources has completed the acquisition of a 50% interest in the Yaou and Dorlin gold properties in French Guiana from Cambior, as part of a number of transactions with Cambior on joint ventured properties in the Guyana Shield. The other 50% interest in these properties is held by Golden Star's 73%
owned subsidiary, Guyanor Ressources S.A., which gives Golden Star an
effective interest in these properties of 87%. In a separate development, Golden Star has made a commitment to Guyanor to participate in a rights issue by Guyanor of up to EUR15 million (USD14 million) by contributing the approximate USD11 million of debt owed by Guyanor to Golden Star into the rights issue. The company noted that the debt for equity swap will have no impact on Golden Star's consolidated balance sheet or statement of operations.
Cambior and Golden Star have reached an agreement to transfer ownership interests in a variety of properties in South America (Suriname). Cambior will buy Golden Star's 50% interest in the Gross Rosebel property for US$8 million, and will also receive Golden Star's 100% interest in the Headley's Reef and Thunder Mountain properties adjacent to Gross Rosebel. In exchange, Golden Star will receive Cambior's 50% interest in the Yaou, Dorlin and Bois Canon properties in French Guyana. Gross Rosebel and Headley's Reef are both gold in vein deposits, and Yaou, Dorlin and Bois Canon are gold in bulk tonnage projects.
Cambior has reached an agreement to acquire Golden Star Resources Ltd.'s 50% interest in the Gross Rosebel property in Suriname, and to complete additional transactions regarding OMAI Gold Mines Ltd., the Yaou and Dorlin properties in French Guiana and other exploration properties in the Guiana Shield, reports the Mining Business Digest. Cambior will purchase its unowned 50% in the Gross Rosebel gold property for US$8 MM cash. Golden Star retains a gold price participation right on future production from Gross Rosebel up to a maximum of 7.0 M ozs.
