Federal and state representatives announced $270 million towards flood recovery at the mine. The mine had been reduced to less than 50 per cent of capacity for more than three months, and had lost valuable export sales while a large proportion of its highest quality coal was inaccessible in the flooded pits.

Mining operations were recommencing following severe flooding. To date the operation was at about 50% capacity and by the end of the year would reach full operation. The new dragline was to be in full operation by the end of the year.
