Further work was on hold pending a higher gold price.
In 1987, International Thunderwood Exploration Ltd. completed approximately 18,000m of drilling on the claims that led to the discovery of the Gold Hawk Zone. Following the drilling, the Gold Hawk Zone was accessed by a cross-cut at the 750’ level (230 m) from the Kierens mine, located on the adjacent First Canadian property. A small tonnage of high-grade ore averaging 30 g/t Au was mined out of the zone.
In 1989, Aur Resources Inc. had outlined additional resources of 254,016 tonnes @ 8.57 g/t Au (70,000 ounces of gold) along the Gold Hawk Horizon based on widely spaced drilling. The resource estimate was completed prior to the implementation of National Instrument 43-101.
Surface and underground exploration conducted from 1987-91 led to definition of mineable reserves of 13,940 t of 24 g/t gold (prior to custom milling) within the Gold Hawk No. 1 Vein. In addition, high grade gold values were intersected by drilling of No. 2 and 3 Veins.
