Progress was made in the development of the Goedgevonden project. Earthworks and civil engineering are nearing completion, the rail bridges are complete and the track laying has commenced. The CHPP and other infrastructure are under construction. The large-scale 12 million tonnes per annum ROM Goedgevonden project is expected to be producing in the second quarter of 2009.
In 2007, production is ramping up at the new Goedgevonden pit to 6.7 million tonnes of thermal coal annually.

Commissioning of the new mine is expected in the first half of 2009, with full production anticipated from 2011.
