January 8, 2010 Southern Pacific Resources announced it has begun its winter drilling program on the Hangingstone West and MacKay properties, Alberta, Canada. The 40 core hole program is designed to identify the company's second oil sands project area on its 269 sections of oil sands leases.
June 30, 2008 A total of 18 core holes were this winter on its 64 section block. Using the 175 km of 2D seismic shot last summer as a guide to spot the locations on this unexplored block of land, Southern Pacific found prospective leads in 10 of the 18 core holes. Gross bitumen zones between 10 to 34 meters thick and net continuous bitumen zones between 9 to 15 meters thick were encountered in these 10 wells. This block is still relatively unexplored, and an expanded exploration program for this area is planned for next winter, keying off the results of this year’s program.
August 31, 2007 The summer seismic program of approx. 175 kms of 2D seismic has commenced. Based upon the results of the seismic interpretation, an anticipated drilling 25 core holes is planned this winter.
