Supermetal Structures Inc., a Quebec-based company, has been awarded contracts to supply structural steel to two construction projects in Alberta's oilsands, reports the Canadian Press. One contract is for Phase 2 of Devon Energy's (NYSE:DVN) Jackfish oilsands project near Conklin, Alta., northeast of Edmonton. Jackfish 2 will use a steam-assisted technology for extracting bitumen. The other contract, let by the EllisDon Construction company, is for the eight-storey administration building at Suncor Energy's (TSX:SU) Voyageur project north of Fort McMurray, Alta. The total Suncor Voyageur village project is valued at $153 million and expected to be completed in 2011.

Announced the receipt of regulatory approval for the second oil sands project. Once fully operational in 2012, Jackfish 2 will produce about 35,000 barrels of oil per day through a recovery method known as Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage.
