Aquarius Platinum reported an update to the announcement of Thursday, 27 August 2009 in respect of the unprotected industrial action by former employees of the principal underground mining contractor at Aquarius Platinum Kroondal and Marikana operations. Production restarted at the Marikana operations on 31 August as planned, with some production at Kroondal only resuming on 3 September. Aquarius Platinum advised that further to the announcement of Wednesday 26 August, the principal underground mining contractor at Aquarius Platinum (SA) (Pty)'s Kroondal and Marikana operations, has dismissed 3,900 of its employees as a result of unprotected industrial action. The dismissal was effective on the afternoon of Wednesday 26 August. AQPSA expects that production at the affected shafts will commence on Monday 31 August and will ramp up over a period of up to two weeks while further employees are engaged and deployed to these operations. AQPSA anticipates a production loss of some 15,000 ounces PGMs (4E) (50% attributable to AQP).
Triple-listed Aquarius Platinum Ltd has posted an increase in net profit of just over $100 million for fiscal 2007, writes Australian Associated Press. Its net profit for the 12 months to June was $187.223 million compared to $85.630 million for the previous financial year.
