A pre-feasibility study was completed and a decision to proceed with a full feasibility study is expected by mid-calendar year 2001. June 6, 2000 Billiton Plc has entered into a joint venture agreement with LanPing Nonferrous Metals Co., a Chinese metals producer based in Yunnan province, to develop the LanPing zinc deposit. The agreement is the first commercial joint venture between an international mining company and the Chinese authorities. LanPing Nonferrous Metals Co. is owned by provincial, county and prefectural governments. (Billiton plc)
