Kirkland Lake Gold announced an update on exploration drilling testing part of the South Mine Complex (SMC). The SMC consists of 15 or more mineralized zones, some of which are actively being explored and developed while others are now in production. Recent drilling from one of many exploration programs currently in progress include further testing of the new discovery located 700 feet below the SMC. The highlights of this recent drilling includes from Hole 53-1319 assayed 4.45 oz/T uncut (1.24 oz/T cut) over 4.1 ft on the Lower SMC, and included 15.27 oz/T over a true width of 1.1 ft, in Hole 53-1318 intersected 4.49 oz/T uncut (2.13 oz/T cut) over a true width of 2.7 ft and in Hole 53-1320 returned 1.97 oz/T over a true width of 3.5 ft.
Kirkland Lake Gold present its year-end (April 30, 2009) gold reserve and resource estimates for its operations in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on both the historic Main Break and the recently discovered South Mine Complex or SMC. The South Mine Complex consists of 15 or more mineralized zones, five of which have been defined over strike lengths in excess of 1,000 feet. ”The geology department delivered a 28% increase in proven and probable ounces in the SMC and a 28% increase in measured and inferred resources, despite not having access during the fiscal year to certain drill bays due to the ventilation project,” said Company President, Brian Hinchcliffe. “An increase in development projects this year will allow for greater flexibility and will enable more strategic exploration.”
Kirkland Lake Gold reported that an unexpected obstruction blocked the pastefill borehole above Level 34 of its Kirkland Lake Mine on June 23, 2009. While efforts were made immediately to clear the obstruction, these efforts have so far been unsuccessful. As efforts to clear the blockage continue, the Company has accelerated the drilling of back-up pastefill boreholes planned for later this year.
