Trombetas set another record with 17.2 million tons of bauxite, almost 1 million tons in excess of its nominal capacity (16.3 million tons). Due to the natural limitations related to navigation in the Trombetas river, it is not possible to perform further expansions on this site's capacity.

The project to increase alumina production capacity at the Alunorte refinery was approved; this will allow to increase alumina production capacity from 4.41 to 6.26 million tons per year at an estimated investment of US$846 million. The projects startup is expected in 2008.
