Russian mining giant Norilsk Nickel has revealed its plans for its Western Australian assets, with its Thunderbox gold project likely to get the chop as it increasingly focuses on nickel, reports Australian Associated Press.

Reported that an evaluation of options to extend the Maggie Hays life mine will be undertaken by reviewing mineral resources at the North Shoot and the Keel and Suture Zones.

Reported that practical completion of the plant upgrade was achieved during the quarter with the majority of works complete. Plant commissioning and ramp up was in progress and site construction activities will be completed before year end. The total amount spent during the quarter was A$19.5 million ($14.5 million).
