The longwall production panel at the Oaky Creek No 1 operation was suspended in response to reduced market demand and sales for hard coking coal.

Productivity at the Oaky Creek longwall operations were improved. Oaky Creek was able to take advantage of extra port capacity due to other producer shortfalls during the extreme weather and overall export sales increased to 4 million tonnes.
As at 2005, construction was underway on a methane power station at Xstrata's Oaky Creek coal mines.
