During the quarter reported copper production and sales volumes in the first quarter were slightly higher than last year at 21,600 tonnes and 21,200 tonnes, respectively.

Reported copper production was slightly above expected levels at 21,300 tonnes for the quarter. An advanced scoping study for a potential Quebrada Blanca expansion project began in early June. The study is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2009 and, if positive, be followed by a project pre-feasibility study.

A technical report dated Mar 31/08 was released and summarizes scientific and technical information supporting an inferred hypogene resource estimation as at Dec 31/07. See Mar 3/08 entry for further details. The estimate was based on a 9,732 meter diamond drilling program in 2007; about 7,559 meters of prior diamond drilling programs targeted for the hypogene zone in the area of the resource estimation. Short intercepts at the upper limit of the hypogene zone from reverse circulation drilling completed in previous years for defining supergene reserves were also included in the hypogene resource estimation.
