The plant was to close at the end of the month due to the depletion of stockpiled ore. Gold production from the Bullfinch operations was 9,275 oz at a cash cost of A$418/oz.

It was reported that the Bullfinch milling facilities would be put on care and maintenance following the completion of the current mining stage of the Cornishman Joint Venture in about three months’ time. Any further ore from Cornishman would be trucked to the Marvel Lock Mine for processing.

Drilling demonstrated the downdip continuation of ore grade mineralization. Significant results include 14 m grading 32.9 g/t Au. Underground drilling continued on the Taurus lode which returned 4.0 m grading 17.8 g/t Au.
In 1998, the Frasers Underground mine at Southern Cross remained on care and maintenance. A small drilling program was planned for Frasers for 1999.
