September 18, 2006 The looming threat of a strike at BHP Billiton's Spence copper mine this month might imperil the planned start-up of the Chilean mine, potentially damaging long-term copper supply fundamentals, reports Mineweb. On Sunday, BHP Billiton asked for government mediation, which, in turn, will delay the September 20th strike at Spence until September 26. If the strike goes ahead as planned, it will be the Australian miner's second Chilean copper strike in two months.
