Announced a 50 percent reduction plan in the mining rate at the Tyrone mine due to poor market conditions.
February 28, 2006
The company announced Tyrone's copper reserves by 155 million pounds, or 14 percent. In 2005/2006, a combination of mining and reclamation activities were conducted as Tyrone focuses on site reclamation while mining its remaining ore reserves. Tyrone SX/EW operations continue at a declining rate. In 2004, mining operations were temporarily curtailed to focus on stockpile reclamation.

Closure and mine close-out plan was amended. In 2001, significant new zones of mineralization were discovered near the mine. During 1997, additional mine-for-leach ore reserves were delineated. The leachable material is both oxide and sulfide copper mineral and is estimated to total 300 million tons at 0.32% Cu. An expansion of the SX - EW plant in early 1992 increased production capacity to 70,000 tons of cathode copper per year. Mine-for-leach operations are expected to continue for 10 years or more, with production declining during the latter part of the term unless further reserves are found. In 1991 the operation now mined material needed to operate the SX-EW facility which is scheduled to be expanded in 1992. The 1991 drilling program at the deposit resulted in the identification of 100 million tons of leachable copper mineralization with an average grade of 0.35% copper.
