Latest Information July 31, 1997 An exploration program, consisting of magnetic surveys and 2 diamond drill holes, was completed. Five distinct anomalies were detected about 1,000 m NW of the previous drilling. Drill hole OKG-97-20 intersected a massive biotite-bearing olivine-gabbro unit that was over 30 m thick. The second hole intersected magnetite-rich anorthositic rocks weakly mineralized with pyrrhotite and lesser chalcopyrite. Approx 10 drill holes were planned. Detailed surface pulse EM and downhole probing was completed at holes OKG-96-14, 13 and OKG 95-5. Possible deepening of hole OKG-96-14 was planned. September 30, 1996 Hole # 96-16 was completed to a depth of 736 m, having intersected 10 ultramafic lenses carrying base metal sulfides: pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. The frequency of the lenses appears to increase with depth. The mineralized pyroxenite lenses are interpreted to have intruded as late magmatic pulses into the Nain Plutonic Suite from deeper sources. Hole 96-16 has intersected 8 m of massive sulfides, while hole 96-11 has intersected 14 m of nickel-bearing ultramafic rock. A second drill rig had been mobilized to the property to begin drilling. |
