Becker Mining Systems is a system supplier for mining infrastructure with headquarters in Friedrichsthal near Saar­brücken in the Saarland. With 1,350 employees at more than 15 international locations, the company, which is completely family-owned, sells its products to the leading mining companies of the world. In addition to Germany, Becker Mining Systems is also represented by its own subsidiaries or sales offices in France, Poland, Russia, China, South Africa, Australia, the United States and Canada, and Chile. Since the middle of the 1980s, Becker Mining Systems has followed a consistent internationalisation strategy and thus countered the receding mining market in its home country.

Becker Mining Systems is the only worldwide supplier of complete energy distribution, automation, communication, transportation and roof support infrastructure for the underground mining industry.
It is the technology leader of its markets. The products fullfil the highest demands for use in explosive atmospheres. The equipped mines mainly extract coal, gold and platinum.

Becker Mining Systems looks back at strong growth in the last decades. Since 1985, the company‘s turnover has at least doubled every five years. In 2008, the Becker Mining Systems Group earned a consolidated turnover of more than EUR 200 million. Becker Mining Systems is active in almost all important mining markets worldwide, and the majority of the most important mining companies are on its list of customers.

Energy distribution - endis

A safe, flexible supply of power underground is absolutely necessary in mining. Becker Mining Systems offers complete, tailor-made energy infrastructure solutions that yield maximum output even under the most difficult conditions. The products in the area of energy include transformers and switchgear that can be handled flexibly and quickly due to a modular technology developed by Becker.

Automation - mincos

In the area of automation, the company offers flexible solutions that guarantee the comprehensive control and monitoring of all work processes at all levels of a modern mine and thus, at the same time, the greatest degree of efficiency with more safety.
Even in case of widely branched clearances and under extremely difficult ambient conditions the automation products of Becker Mining Systems guarantee a problem-free flow of information between the individual plants, machines, and equipment.

Communication – smartcom

An important area of growth is communication. Mobile radio solutions enable uninterrupted communication throughout the entire mine. These solutions are used not only for voice transmissions, but also to transmit data and video signals underground and to the main mine control station aboveground. In addition, the radio products of Becker Mining Systems provide for greater operating safety in mines: by means of these products, the location of people and machines can be clearly determined. In this way, collisions can be avoided and rescue measures can be initiated quickly and specifically in case of damage.

Transportation - minetrans

Since the founding of the company in 1964, Becker Mining Systems has been developing transportation systems for man and material underground. Both individual solutions and complete systems transport men, material and equipment quickly and reliably, even to the most remote parts of the mine. The systems of Becker are characterised by the fact that they can transport heavy loads at high speed even on strongly sloped routes. The product portfolio ranges from duorails and overhead monorails to chair lifts and conveying systems.

Roof Support

In the expansion of underground mining, safety plays an important role. In the pro­duct area roof support, the company produces support systems for safe face and clearance expansion. Shield support systems are used in longwall faces under all kinds of geological and mining conditions. The developed hydraulic shields and mechanical support systems secure the individual faces and clearances after and during excavation.

Becker Mining Systems is represented by its own subsidiaries or sales offices on five continents. Since 1983, Becker Mining Systems has focused on expansion outside of its home market with the founding of Becker Warkop in Poland and a joint ven­ture in China (1996). Foundings and takeovers in South Africa (2001), France (2002), Australia (2005), Canada (2006), Russia and the United States (2007), and Chile (2008) have followed.
Through takeovers and its own growth, Becker will continue to further expand its already strong market position and become the worldwide market leader in its sector.
