Quantum magnetometers are a class of magnetometers that take advantage of the spin of subatomic particles (nuclei and unpaired valence electrons). Through a process of polarization, particles are caused to precess in the earth's ambient magnetic field — the resulting frequency of precession can be translated directly into magnetic field units. Quantum results are scalar (total field intensity) as opposed to vector (i.e. from fluxgate geophysical instruments or GEM's Suspended dIdD technology). GEM Systems offers newly created built-in option OmniStar with CDGPS for their portable and airborne magnetometers, called GPS Option D With the new functionality all GEM’s ground systems – the industry standard Overhauser magnetometer / gradiometer, Proton precession, and optically pumped Potassium ground systems – are benefited from CDGPS advantages over other existing systems. CDGPS delivers superior correction signal penetration, high accuracy and resolution differential GPS corrections that are important to many dynamic positioning applications. In addition, there is no subscription cost for users of this service. CDGPS delivers positioning up to 20 times per second that allows to have the real position data at any magnetometer sampling speed.
