LiDAR Services International (LSI)
LSI is a leading airborne LiDAR service provider offering high accuracy LiDAR and digital imagery data collection and data processing services to the mining industry worldwide. The LSI team has completed projects on 5 continents around the world. |
Mapping at the Speed of Light

LiDAR
An acronym that stands for Light Detection And Ranging. LiDAR is the optical equivalent of RADAR. A LiDAR system uses an eye safe near infrared laser beam of light to map earth surface features. |
LSI’s HELIX LiDAR System
LSI owns and operates 3 HELIX proprietary airborne LiDAR systems. HELIX integrates the latest digital waveform scanning laser technology with inertial measurement units (IMU), dual frequency GPS receivers, digital video and digital imagery cameras, all in a rugged field proven mapping system ideal for mine applications where accurate measurement of the topography is required.
|
Topographic Mapping
LiDAR produces highly accurate bare earth digital elevation models, DEM, digital terrain models, DTM, all in X, Y, Z, ASCII data format for use in all types of engineering CAD and GIS software packages.
|
Millions and Millions and Millions of Data Points
Scanning Laser
LSI's scanning lasers range from 200,000 pulses per second up to 240,000 pulses per second. Depending on the flying height, and the speed of data collection, in a single linear km, between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 laser points will be directed to the earth's surface. Laser hits or reflections will be recorded from any earth surface feature below the airborne platform including trees, buildings, ground, transmission line towers and wires, existing roads, etc. |
Generate 3-D Surface Models Even Under Vegetation Canopy
LiDAR Accuracy
LiDAR accuracy typically is in the range of 15 - 40 CM RMSE, depending on flying height. With the shear volume of laser points leaving the airborne sensor, a large percentage of points will make it through the most difficult of canopy cover to provide surface elevation information. LiDAR is collected quickly and is cost effective compared to traditional means of surveying. |
