What We Do

Shell Canada is one of the largest integrated petroleum companies in Canada with three major business units: Exploration and Production, Oil Sands and Oil Products, supported by a number of Corporate departments.

Exploration & Production

The Exploration and Production (E&P) business unit explores for and produces natural gas and natural gas liquids, and is Canada’s largest sulphur producer. E&P also includes Shell’s Unconventional Oil business - in situ oil sands operations that use wells to extract bitumen too deep to be surface mined. E&P operates four sour natural gas processing facilities in the Foothills area of Alberta and four bitumen production facilities in Northern Alberta. It also operates a number of sour gas wells in northeast BC. It includes a 31.3 per cent share of the Sable Offshore Energy Project offshore Nova Scotia, partnership in the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project in northern Canada and an exploration interest in the Orphan Basin offshore Newfoundland.

Athabasca Oil Sands Project

Shell’s Athabasca Oil Sands Project consists of the Muskeg River Mine located 75 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, the Scotford Upgrader located near Fort Saskatchewan and supporting facilities. Shell continues to evaluate development opportunities related to Shell’s substantial oil sands resources in the Athabasca area.

Oil Products

Oil Products (OP) manufactures, distributes and markets refined petroleum products across the country. The OP business also procures crude oil and feedstocks for Shell’s refineries in Montreal, Quebec; Sarnia, Ontario; and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The refineries convert crude oil into products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuels, solvents, lubricants, asphalt and heavy fuel oils. Shell products are supplied to retail and commercial road transport markets through Shell’s Canada-wide network of retail and cardlock sites

Upholding the Shell reputation is paramount. We are judged by how we act. Shell Canada's reputation will be upheld if we act with honesty and integrity in all our dealings and we do what we believe to be right at all times within the legitimate role of business.

Shell recognizes the importance of retaining the trust and confidence of its shareholders, employees, customers, and others with whom it does business, as well as the communities in which Shell conducts business. This trust must be merited by conduct in alignment with Shell's Business Principles and Code of Ethics.

Shell's Business Principles and Code of Ethics form the foundation for the conduct expected of every employee in Shell's business dealings. We must strive to maintain consistent conduct of the highest ethical standard; the cornerstone for Shell's success and the success of Shell employees.

Shell companies insist on honesty, integrity and fairness in all aspects of their business and expect the same in their relationships with all those with whom they do business. The direct or indirect offer, payment, soliciting and acceptance of bribes in any form are unacceptable practices. Employees must avoid conflicts of interest between their private financial activities and their part in the conduct of company business. All business transactions on behalf of a Shell company must be reflected accurately and fairly in the accounts of the company in accordance with established procedures and be subject to audit.

Objectives

The objectives of Shell Canada Limited and its subsidiaries ("Shell companies") are to engage efficiently, responsibly and profitably in the oil, gas, and other selected businesses and to support the search for and development of other sources of energy. Shell companies seek a high standard of performance and aim to maintain a long-term position in their respective competitive environments.
