The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy represent the interests of professionals associated in all facets of the mining, exploration and minerals processing industries. With a focus on 'Enhancing Professional Excellence' The AusIMM has embarked upon a revitalisation program to ensure its on-going relevance and contribution to the individuals represented by a 8,000-strong membership base, located in a network of Branches throughout the Asia Pacific region, with a growing international member base.

The Institute was formed in 1893 (incorporated by Royal Charter in 1955) to advance science and engineering in the minerals industry, and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas to enhance the professional excellence of its members.

Members are drawn from all sections of the industry: private enterprise, government, research, education and the support sector, including consultancies, manufacturers and suppliers.
