The Aguablanca mine is located approximately 100 kilometers north of Seville in the south of Spain. It is the first nickel sulfide mine to operate in western Europe's highly prospective nickel sulfide belt. The mine employs 125 people and operates 365 days a year.
The mine consists of a single open pit and an on-site processing plant. The initial open pit mine life is estimated at 10.5 years based on 14.6 million tonnes of ore in the open pit and stockpiles, containing 94,894 tonnes of nickel and 67,338 tonnes of copper. Under the current mine plan as reported in December 2008, a further 6 years of mine life (to 2014) will result in approximately 9.0 Mt of ore processed with an average grade of 0.63% nickel and 0.47% copper. The overall stripping ratio is 7.1:1.

The 2.7 kilometre decline ramp, which was completed in 2005, has enabled the company to embark on an underground infill drilling and exploration program. The first five exploration holes drilled in 2007 in these deeper zones have intersected wide intervals of strongly disseminated, semi-massive as well as massive, and sulfide mineralization. The undeground exploration drilling program was completed in 2008 with results indicated that underground mining was not economical.
