Mining groups are disappointed the federal budget has not provided incentives for minerals exploration to ensure the sustainability of the resource industry, reports Australian Associated Press. David Parker, director of policy for the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, said he was delighted Treasurer Peter Costello had recognised that strong global demand for Australian commodities was underpinning the booming economy. "But we would have been grateful for that recognition to be backed up by a proposal, such as the flow-through share scheme that would have ensured the long-term sustainability of resources by renewal of inventory," Parker said.
