NEWMONT MINING CORP
Newmont Ghana Gold announced Tuesday that production has started at the Ahafo project in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana, reports Mineweb. It is expected that the first gold dore bars will be poured within the next two to three weeks. Newmont has spent $470 million on the Ahafo project, which currently employs 760 persons, including 316 employees from nearby communities, 402 Ghanaians from other parts of the country, and 42 expatriates. The IFC approved $125 million in financing for the mine.
