Wednesday, August 02, 2006 XSTRATA PLC Swiss-based miner Xstrata will spend $US125 million ($A164 million) expanding the Mount Isa base metal mine in Queensland, making it the world's third largest zinc mine reports the Australian Associated Press. Xstrata Zinc will spend $US120 million ($A157 million) revamping and expanding the zinc and lead concentrator at the Mt Isa mine, increasing throughput to eight million tonnes a year by the second half of 2008.The George Fisher and Black Star mines will also increase production to meet the extra plant capacity.
