Japan and Kazakhstan Monday signed an agreement allowing the substantial increase of uranium exports to fuel Japan’s nuclear power generation, reports Mineweb. A nuclear agreement was signed Monday during a visit to Kazakhstan by Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. The Japanese PM’s visit comes at a time when Russia, China and the U.S. are already competing for access to Central Asia’s natural resources. Kazakhstan holds 15% of the world’s uranium reserves and has an expanding mining sector.
