Tuesday, August 29, 2006 ANTOFAGASTA PLC UK-based Chilean miner Antofagasta plc has reported first half earnings well above analysts' estimates, despite lower copper output at its key mining operations, Los Pelambres and El Tesoro, reports Mineweb. In fact, profits rose a massive 77.6% compared with a year ago to come in at US$ 652.6 million compared with US$367.5 million in first half 2005. The company, as a result, declared a special dividend boosting the interim payment this year from 3.2 cents/share to 5.2 cents.
