Seahawk Identifies New Near-Surface Emerald Bearing Zone at Piteiras
ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO--Seahawk Minerals Ltd. (CDNX-"SKM") is pleased to announce the discovery of a near surface emerald bearing zone on the Piteiras property in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Ongoing core drilling on the property has revealed the new zone approximately 200 metres east-southeast of the previously identified underground "Coqueiro Zone". Three holes intercepted the regionally productive "Blackwall Zone" and recovered emerald crystals and crystal fragments. Drill holes PD00-37 and PD00-38, which intercepted the host rock at approximately 21 and 31 metres depth, respectively, have visible emerald mineralization on the surface of the core and intercepted approximately 13 metres of Blackwall Zone. Core crushing has commenced for hole PD00-37, and has revealed in excess of 1,300 emerald crystals and fragments to date with sizes ranging up to 7mm x 2.9mm x 2mm. Core crushing for PD00-38 has not yet commenced, however, emeralds exposed on the surface of the core measure up to 30mm x 6mm in two dimensions. Actual and final measurements, including carat weight, will be announced upon completion of core crushing and analysis. This new zone has been named the "JML Zone", and available information to date on the first three drill holes in the JML Zone are summarized as follows:

Furthermore, seven additional holes have been drilled at 50 metre centres on the southeast extension of the Coqueiro Zone since the Company's February 28, 2000 news release. All seven holes intercepted the emerald bearing Blackwall Zone, with two containing emerald crystals and crystal fragments. The final results from these holes are as follows:

Inclusive of the previously announced drilling information, the Company has now intercepted the emerald bearing Blackwall Zone in 25 drill holes at Coqueiro, of which 12 holes contain emerald mineralization. The Coqueiro Zone now measures approximately 420 metres by 200 metres with an average true thickness of in excess of two metres and remains open to the south, southeast and northwest. Drill holes PD00-37 and PD00-38 within the newly discovered JML Zone are located approximately 150 metres apart. The geochemical assay results from both the JML and Coqueiro Zones have similar signatures within the Blackwall Zones. The JML and Coqueiro zones are separated by approximately 200 metres along plunge and could be linked together. Additional core drilling will be required to fully understand and verify the continuity, as well as the geologic relationship, between these two zones.
The Company is now reviewing plans to initially access the near surface emerald bearing Blackwall Zone at JML as opposed to Coqueiro, and has initiated an internal study of the benefits associated with this approach. This will also permit for an expedited emerald resource calculation through the reduced time frame involved in obtaining a bulk sample.
Mr. Christopher W. Taylor, President of the Company, stated today that "... the importance of the near surface mineralization at JML is potentially very significant given the likelihood of substantially reduced development costs and time in accessing the emerald bearing zones at Piteiras."
