Minfile 093G057 200+ Acres. The Ahbau Creek area is primarily underlain by schist. Barkerville terrane. Placer gold deposits occur on bedrock and also to a large extent on false bedrock of glacial material. The Ahbau Creek deposit is located at the junction of Ahbau Creek with Murray Creek. Quartz veins are known to occur at several points in the area. Data from the Cariboo mining district of British Columbia indicate that supergene leaching of gold dispersed within massive sulphides by Tertiary deep weathering followed by Cenozoic erosion is the most likely explanation for the occurrence of coarse gold nuggets in Quaternary sediments.
