The property covers 80 acres in Crow Wing County, City of Emily, Section 21, Township 138N, Range 26W 35 mi. from Brainerd airport, and 120 mi. due west of Duluth.
Geology: Nearly flat surface expression topography with 180-200 ft. of glacial till over bedrock iron formation
Mineralization: Three tabular, dipping high-grade manganese zones, which are about 50 ft. thick; primarily manganite (MnO) and pyrolusite (MnO2) minerals, and also containing oxides of iron (Fe2O3) and silica (SiO2).
Mn oxides deposited in porous & permeable materials by a reflux process involving reducing solutions that leached Mn from older North Range Gp.
Work: 1940's & 1950's: Discovery & 13 core holes drilled & logged
1991: Minnesota Geological Survey report on Emily deposit.
1995: Large diameter corehole drilled with near full core recovery, downhole wireline logging, downhole permeability & porosity tests for in-situ or waterjet extraction, & independent Bureau of Mines testing & analysis
Results: Tabular zones contain significant intervals of 20%-45% Mn
1995 drilling, core recovery, and pre & post analysis confirms manganese resource, and indicates unconsolidated, friable material amenable to either selective in-situ leaching of manganese or the borehole waterjet recovery of both manganese and iron values of the deposit.
1996: U.S. Bureau of Mines report estimates
one billion pounds of manganese is contained within just over five-acres immediately surrounding the 1995 drill hole.
