The pit was built in 1950, beside highway 95 between Yuma and Quartzite in Arizona.
The rock types in the deposit can be used for a wide variety of purposes. They include ten or more different colours of volcanic decorative rocks, sand, gravel, concrete, asphalt, rockfill or other construction material.
$39 per yard placer gold is contained in the material at $600 gold, and can be extracted as part of the process of creating construction rock, and gold recovery can help offset costs to produce aggregate or turn a profit. 30% of gold is 1/8” or bigger, and jewelry gold is sold at a considerable premium to the spot gold price.
The operation is located near a major railroad, Interstate I8, and a moderately sized city (Yuma, Arizona). Aggregate can easily be shipped by rail to large markets in Los Angeles or other parts of California, or to Las Vegas, Nevada. Construction of two more lanes from Fortuna Road to Quartzite is expected to start this year, and this property has the best rock in the area for the job.
